“How long will my website take?” is one of the first questions every small business owner asks. The honest answer is that it depends far more on how the site is built than on how complicated your business is. Most sites take weeks or months, but they do not have to. Here is how the timelines break down in 2026.
The four routes, and how long each takes
1. Do it yourself on a website builder
As fast, or as slow, as you can work. You can drag something onto the screen in an afternoon, but a site you would happily put your name to usually takes many evenings of writing, tweaking and second-guessing. The real clock is your own time, spread over weeks around everything else you are running.
2. Hire a freelancer
Usually a few weeks, sometimes longer. A good freelancer can move quickly, but you are in their queue behind other clients, and the timeline lives or dies on how fast content and feedback pass back and forth. If photos are slow to arrive or sign-off drifts, weeks become months.
3. Use an agency
Often several weeks to a few months. Agencies run a thorough process of discovery calls, drafts and revision rounds, and that process takes time by design. The result is polished, but a small business can wait a while as the smallest account on the books.
4. A done-for-you studio
Days. You choose from designs that are already built, send your details, and the studio does the rest. There is no blank canvas to design from scratch and no long chain of revision rounds, which is where most of the waiting normally hides. It is the model we use, and we are usually live within days of getting your details.
Ask any provider three questions: Where am I in your queue right now? What do you need from me, and by when? Is the timeline fixed, or does it move if revisions run on? The answers tell you far more about when you will actually be live than the headline ‘a few weeks’ ever does.
What actually causes the delays
When a website drags on, it is rarely the design work itself. It is almost always one of these:
- Waiting on content: the single biggest cause. If the words and photos are not ready, nothing else can finish.
- Revision rounds: each ‘can we just change one thing’ adds another cycle of send, review and sign-off.
- The queue: your project sitting behind other people’s while you wait your turn.
- A blank canvas: a fully custom, designed-from-scratch build simply takes longer than starting from a premium design that already works.
- Sign-off: the final ‘yes, go live’ often sits in an inbox for days.
Notice that most of these are about back-and-forth, not building. Take the back-and-forth out and the timeline collapses.
How we get you live in days
We built our process to remove the slow parts rather than rush the work:
- You start from premium designs that are already built, so there is no weeks-long design phase.
- We handle the content and setup for you, so nothing stalls waiting on a blank page. If your words and photos are not ready, we help you get them sorted.
- Your AI assistant is a one-line addition, not a separate project.
- The mobile version and the Google setup are part of the standard build, not extras that add time.
The fastest route is not the one that rushes the work. It is the one that does not leave the slow parts to you.
Where we sit
Our offer is built to be quick without cutting corners: a premium, done-for-you, multi-page website with an AI assistant included, usually live within days, for a fixed founding-client price of £495 (standard £995). No long contracts, no jargon, and no open-ended clock. You can see the range of designs and exactly how it works.
In short
- DIY builder: as fast as you can work, which usually means many evenings over several weeks.
- Freelancer: a few weeks, longer if content, feedback or their queue slows things down.
- Agency: several weeks to a few months, thorough but not quick.
- Done-for-you: days, because the design is ready and the back-and-forth is taken out. Ours is usually live within days of getting your details.
- The real driver: how fast content and sign-off move, so the fastest routes are the ones that do not leave that to you.
